Boil them cabbage down!

I'd like your reaction to our trip to the past...

Do you think you could live in the year 1870?

What would miss most about the year 2008?

What did you like best about our morning in 1870?

Buffalo

Since I saw you last, I traveled to Buffalo, New York.  I left right after school on Friday afternoon, flew out of JAX and returned at about midnight on Sunday night, ready for SAT-10 with 2nd graders, bright and early on Monday morning.

On Saturday, we drove to Niagara Falls.  Words cannot explain such a beautiful sight.  Imagine hearing the roar of the water tumbling over the edge...imagine the mist rising up..imagine the speed of the water running over the rapids, closer and closer to the falls.

Sunday greeted us with a layer of fresh snow on the ground and flakes gently pouring out of the morning sky.  Picture us, from Florida, running around snapping photos, making snowballs, and acting gleeful at the sight.  Needless to say, the locals weren't as excited as we were; they had seen enough of the white stuff :)

Here's a chance for you to write about a time you recently traveled to another place.

Alsobrook Allstars Alliterations

J0283273

Here are the alliteration sentences we wrote last week:

Arielle: Arielle always approves adorable animals.

Joey: Joey just jumped a jumbo jet after joyfully watching Jumanji.

Sam: Super Sam solemnly sailed the South Seas searhing the sunken ship.

Ryan: Ravenous raccoons riot on rowdy roadrunners.

Madi: Mechanical mice maneuvered menacingly around Mt. Megan mischievously on Madi's motorbike.

Rebecca: Rude rats rambunctiously ran right; ranting ad raving rudely about rootbeer.

Justin: The jesting jackals just jumbo-jumped Justin and Joey to put them into jeopardy.

Gabby: Gabby grazes on green grass that grows green goats.

Cecilia: The captive coyote couldn't climb the cold cabinet.

Garrett: Gary Gator player his gameboy going to Gatorland.

Justin: Jumpy jackals jumped in a jewelry store.

Rachel: Red racing Rachel's road recipe for ratatouille ran right into Robin Hood's house, ricocheting off the roof, shot by a rambunctious rifle, and adding to to the ruby red recipe box.

March Madness!

Basketball March is here and that means crazy scheduling for our reading class.  During the next few weeks, we will only have class on:

      • Monday, March 10
      • Friday, March 14
      • Tuesday-Friday, March 25-28

What does this mean for you?

  • No Read and Responds - March 14 and 20
  • No practice probes assigned

However, because there is only ONE Book Share due this ENTIRE month, you really need to READ, READ, READ during your "down time."  No split books...read one whole book!  Remember, you are still responsible for your TWELVE ACCELERATED READER POINTS

Important March dates:

  • March Madness Book Share - project AND summary - DUE March 27.
  • Last day of this grading period - Thursday, March 27
  • If your Book Share is late, it will be a ZERO in your grade average.
  • March 31 - last day for AR goal - 12 points

Here's a question for you...

What book are you reading this month?  What's your favorite part so far?
